Aston University’s BSC Optometry is a three year full-time programme with integrated placements. Students who successfully attain an average mark of 50% at the end of Year 3 have the opportunity to continue with further study, leading to the MOptom course. The 4th year of the MOptom full time course is an integrated work based learning year, allowing students to work and study concurrently.

 

Facilities

Pathways to Aston University BSc/MOptom Optometry

Like many Life and Health Sciences course, the entry requirements into the programme is generally an AAA-AAB for A Level holders or 34 points overall for IB holders.  Students with a diploma in Optometry from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic can be considered on an individual basis for 1st year entry.

 

Nonetheless, Aston University welcome students without the equivalent qualifications to gain entry to this recognised undergraduate course through the International Foundation Programme in Science at Aston University. Equivalent to the UK’s Year 13, the International Foundation Programme is a one year course designed for international students who do not meet the required GCE A levels or equivalent qualifications for entry to Aston University undergraduate degree programmes. Students are guaranteed a placement upon successfully completing the programme and meeting the specific academic and English language grades for the relevant programme. Exciting Prospects Open in Ireland!

In a ground-breaking announcement, Richard Bruton, Ireland’s Education Minister, has announced plans to expand the country’s international education sector. The commitment has been made to increase the industry size to 2.1 billion Euros by 2020; therein welcoming more students to Universities and English Language schools.

 

On the 7th of October 2016, the Education Minister, set new targets for the number of international students in Ireland to 44,000 in higher education institutions. This marks a 33% rise for University places; for English Language schools, he has set a target of 132,500 students, a 25% increase from current figures. For all prospective students who wish to study in UK or Europe, Ireland now is a stepping stone towards those dreams!

 

More international student placings means, easier immigration status for students all across the world! This is supported by Minister Bruton when he said, “International education has a key role to play in this and by attracting more international students, and we can bring significant investment into our education system and more employment into our economy.”

 

The Irish government previously gave signs of its intentions to expand the higher education sector and the English Language Training sector with its Interim List of Eligible Programs last year. This list provides a database of education providers who were allowed to accept students on visas for non-EU nationals.
