Founded in 1945 University of Aberdeen is Scotland’s 3rd Oldest University, 5th Oldest in the English-speaking world. It was then formed in 1860 by a merger between King’s College and Marischal College. Now, University of Aberdeen is located in a buzzing, friendly city and recently been voted Scotland's safest University City.

Following the QS World University Rankings, University of Aberdeen consistently ranks among the top 200 universities in the world and recently jumped up by 25 spots during 2012 to 2015, from rank 162nd to 137th, thus placing it in the top 1% of universities around the world. The university is rated top in the UK in REF14 (Research Excellence Framework 2014), with 76% of research assessed as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. It is also ranked 65th in the world for Life Sciences in the World University Rankings, 2014.

1) College of Arts and Social Sciences;

2) College of Life Sciences and Medicine and;

3) College of Physical Sciences

 

These schools are further separated into a number of academic schools and institutions, offering more than 550 different undergraduate programmes and more than 120 postgraduate taught programmes.

 

The university’s particular strengths lie in medical and life sciences, health services research, psychology and environmental sciences; business and management studies, languages and literature, divinity and history; geosciences, mathematical sciences and engineering.
